Press Release: 25th Annual Women of Achievement Awards

The Silver Anniversary of the Annual Women of Achievement Awards takes off with the Oregon State motto as its 2009 theme:   ‘SHE FLIES WITH HER OWN WINGS.’
This year’s celebration, a Sunday Brunch at The Nines on October 4th, features three amazing women, two amazing honorees, and one amazing State.
The theme also exemplifies the women to be honored this year: Arlene Schnitzer and Gert Boyle.  Both women are well known and instantly recognized virtually everywhere in Oregon for the breadth and the depth of their leadership and contributions across multiple areas.  Each has made extraordinary inroads and created unparalleled opportunities for women in our State, spanning decades of hard work, exemplary leadership, and immense generosity.  This same spirit and leadership by example can also be said of this year’s keynote speaker, Justice Betty Roberts; the first woman appointed to the Oregon Court of Appeals, and the first woman to serve on the Oregon Supreme Court.
“We are humbled by the extraordinary leadership these women have demonstrated throughout their careers and the legacy they have created for future Oregonians,” said Event Co-Chair, Commissioner Karen Shimada.  “Our State certainly would not be what it is today, nor what it will be tomorrow, if it were not for these three amazing women.”
“This is the first time the Commission will be honoring Oregonian businesswomen as the Women of Achievement awardees,” added Event Co-Chair, Commissioner Sue Castner.  “These two extraordinarily accomplished women exemplify the passion, dedication, and trailblazing spirit that has paved the way for women to break barriers and create success in Oregon’s business world”.
Sponsorship opportunities for the 25th Silver Anniversary Women of Achievement Awards Brunch will be available on our event website: www.friendsofocfw.org after August 5th. These include a chance to meet the honorees at a VIP reception, premium seating, bonus PR/recognition and other additional benefits.  Items are also needed for the silent auction. Individual tickets are available for $50.00 per person and are payable by check or credit card through the website or by contacting the OCFW office .
The Annual Women of Achievement Awards celebration will be a fun-filled brunch, attended by politicians, corporate principles, community volunteers, and citizens.  It is an occasion to celebrate women who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of women in Oregon.  Proceeds from this event support the work of the Oregon Commission for Women.
